Cover Blurb:

When his best friend and fellow Navy SEAL, Evan Prescott, died in his arms on the battlefield, Logan Kincaid gave his word to watch over Evan’s widow. But for two years he kept his distance…torn between honoring his solemn vow and succumbing to his secret love for his fallen comrade’s wife. But when Dani Prescott desperately reaches out to Logan for the help only he can give, he rushes to her side—determined to fight for her safety as fiercely as he fights against his own buried desire.

Someone claiming to be her husband is stalking Dani and her infant daughter, making them virtually prisoners in their remote country home. Logan’s elite military training and high-risk security expertise have outmatched more dangerous enemies. But the real challenge will be the burning temptation that threatens to overcome Logan whenever Dani is near…especially when she reveals her own hidden passion.

Logan turned and stared at the house he had bought two years ago. He’d long dreamed of having a beautiful home on the gulf, one where he could walk out his back door and feel the sand warm on his bare feet or stand under the night moon and feel the breeze on his face.

Except for necessities, he had saved every penny of his navy pay. When he left the military after twelve years, he’d had enough for the down payment. The first thing he did was to start looking for a house.

The minute he walked in the door, he knew this was the one. As different from his past life as possible. Looking up, he admired the tall windows reaching from the ground floor to the second. In daylight, the views from inside were spectacular, and sometimes he stood in a room overlooking the ocean and pinched himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming.

What had Dani thought of it? Maybe his ego needed to show her what he’d made of himself, because he had wanted to be the one to take her on a tour, wanted to watch her face, to hear her comments.

Did she like it enough to consider living here? She was a writer and could live anywhere, whereas his company was here, and as much as he loved the mountains, he didn’t think he could bear giving up his ocean.

Getting ahead of yourself, here, Kincaid. Shes given no indication she wants your ring on her finger. He finished the last of his beer, warm now, and went inside. Tomorrow, he would take her on a tour of K2.

Unable to sleep, Logan got out his copy of The Countess Takes a Lover and turned to the page he’d marked. A few chapters later, he stopped reading and stared out the French doors, for once not noticing the view. In the book, the heroine, Elena, wanted to be courted.

Did Dani? Was that a clue to winning her heart? Didn’t a writer, especially one who wrote romance, put their own desires into their stories, consciously or even unconsciously? Wouldn’t her hero act in a way Dani would want a man to?

Believing he had stumbled on a way to learn her fantasies, he went back to reading, mentally noting all the things Jonathan did to make Elena fall in love with him. He stayed up half the night reading, and when he finished the book, he fell asleep to ideas forming in his mind.

The next morning, he made a quick trip to the grocery store and then settled down at his desk, a cup of coffee in hand. At his best when he had a well-thought-out plan, Logan outlined a schedule for the time they were in Pensacola, along with notes on how to act and the things he needed to do. One thing that had caught his attention in Dani’s book was how much Elena loved Jonathan’s scent. Logan gave that a lot of thought.

For years, because of what he did, he had strived to have no scent at all. No one on his team was allowed to smoke, as the smell or the glow of a cigarette could result in being dead. They had also never used cologne, aftershave, or scented deodorant. But Elena loved Jonathan’s scent, so Logan made a list of some things to buy.

When he finished, Logan read over his notes and grunted his satisfaction. If his team knew he was planning a courtship with the precision and detail of a SEAL mission, he would be the butt of their jokes for years to come. He didn’t give a damn. Already he was having the time of his life and couldn’t wait to start.

He smiled and shoved his courtship plan into a desk drawer. “Let the games begin.”

Genre: Romantic Comedy with Paranormal Elements

Cover Blurb

Being the Devil is a job no one wants. The hours are terrible, the workload unbelievable and frankly, customer service is a nightmare. You’re blamed for everything and liability is no joke when you’re the Lord of Darkness. As a result, turnover for the position is fairly high. The current Lucifer is the seventh lucky one to lose the ultimate lottery and land the title.

Truthfully, there’s very little evil to be instigated. Free will and a bad history of twisted mythology takes care of all of it–so the guy behind the black onyx desk is generally just the unhappy Archangel left filling out paperwork and doing his best to keep the Big Boss happy. And for Lucifer, forget about dating. It’s a long, dry run, unless you’re into the women that might be into you–and frankly, the current Lucifer isn’t too turned on by ladies wearing spider web stockings and red Jell-O in their hair. Not that he blames a few of his predecessors with embracing the Goth hooker thing, but–an Angel has to be true to himself.

So when Lucifer accidentally bumps into a mortal woman who makes him rethink the wisdom of not applying for that maintenance position in Purgatory, it’s a roller coaster ride. Love can make anyone crazy. And Lucifer is determined to see if he can make it snow in Hell if it will polish up his wings enough to win the girl and get himself fired.

She nodded her head slowly, not trusting her voice. It’s official. I’m the worst sales professional walking. Unprepared. I let my nerves do the talking and now I’m crushing on the man and have forgotten how to talk. Yeesh!

“I don’t usually partake in the middle of the afternoon,” he went on as if there was nothing out of the ordinary going on. “But I think today is going to be an exception.”

“May I ask, what is your business, Luke?” Jayne followed him to the bar where two black leather half couches faced each other across from a low stone cube table. She perched in the middle of one of them as he took the seat across from her.

“It’s…a little of everything,” he answered, looking down at his hands, then stood to cross over to the shelves, opening up one of the dark glass cabinets to survey the bottles. “Or a lot of everything depending on your viewpoint.”

“Well, if I had to guess, I’d say you were into weapons manufacturing or some kind of high end military technologies, am I right?”

“Why would you say that?” His expression was pure curiosity as he pulled out a bottle of port.

“Well. Black isn’t exactly the color of a toy company and no one would be this hush-hush unless they really didn’t want the public to even notice they were there.”

“Good point.”

“Not that the “Men in Black” thing doesn’t have a certain appeal,” she added shyly.

“So, is it weapons or something…scary?”

He filled two crystal glasses with tawny port and came back to join her. “I don’t make weapons, Jayne.” He held out one glass to her. “As for scary, that’s a little trickier.”

“Okay, no more guessing games.” Jayne took the delicate glass from him. “Let’s have it.”

“I’m not sure where to begin,” he admitted then took a sip from his glass.

“How about telling me what H.E. stands for?”

“Hades Enterprises.”

She blinked twice, waiting to see if he was joking. “Seriously? What do you manufacture? Brimstone?”

He smiled; that potent bone melting smile that made her hips shiver with a wicked thrill. “No. I’m afraid we don’t manufacture anything.”

“Well, before I even hear what you do, I’m telling you that you need a name change. Luke, there’s nothing positive associated with Hades. Do you have a parent corporation that’s Greek or something? Maybe they didn’t understand the cultural implications when they shifted to the States?” Jayne took a sip from her glass and was momentarily distracted by how good it was. But she set it down to do her best to hold her own.

Let’s not add alcohol to the mix of weird and wonderment I’ve got cooking.

“Jayne,” he took a deep breath and mirrored her choice by setting down his drink. “I didn’t mean to invite you back under false pretences. We’ve never worked with a public relations firm. Ever.”

“Clearly.” She nodded. “But Luke, you can’t be a corporation with that name. And the abbreviation—it’s worse. You know this, right?”

“I know, but it was a challenge to come up with anything better, Jayne. Gehenna, Inc. was taken believe it or not and there’s actually a software company that designs games called Satanic Ventures. It’s not like I can just throw a dart at a board. I thought it was fairly clever, H.E. LLc.”

Jayne leaned back against the leather cushion and tried to take in what he was saying but her brain refused to keep up. “Luke. It’s not like you’re… You are not actually…”

“Lucifer?” he prompted gently
She nodded.

“But I am.”

Game on.

Excerpt from LADY OF PLEASURE:

He trailed his gaze to the table and eyed her.

She stiffly and wordlessly gestured to the table, asking him to sit on the jam-spattered side. Where he belonged.

He eyed her again and carefully setting the closed small wicked basket beside his chair, pushed aside the tails of his coat with a hand and sat. He shifted, scanning the spangled table of jam and half-eaten scones.  “Is there a reason the scones are bleeding?”

If she wasn’t so angry, she would have laughed. But he wasn’t going to win that easily. Oh, no. No, no, no. “They must have known you were coming and themselves on the knife.”

He stared. “You aren’t going to make this easy for me, are you?”

She stared back and coolly said, “No.”

He leaned forward and toward her and was about to prop an arm against the table when he realized there was too much jam to bother. He sat back against the chair. “Now I know what the jam is for.”

She really was brilliant.

5 Fun Facts about Invitation to Passion

  1. My hero, Richard Craven is the younger twin of Anthony Craven, Earl of Wickham (Invitation to Ruin – Mar 2011).  The two men look nothing alike, and have completely different personalities, yet they really are best friends. Richard set up Anthony to compromise Melissa, his wife, and Anthony thinks it’s hilarious that he didn’t have to retaliate—Richard managed to compromise Madeline by himself.
  1. Madeline Knight, my heroine, has spent her life at her brother’s estate. Her father died, accused of treason, when she was two-years-old and her mother fled to the protection of the estate. Madeline has never had a season, and has spent her life reading and imaging the world beyond the estate. That’s why Richard is so important to her. He took pity on a young girl and became what we would now call her pen pal. There are snippets of their letters at the start of each chapter.
  1. Richard worries that he doesn’t really know what love feels like.  In the past he’s often thought he’s been in love, in fact he thought he was in love with Sarah and even asked her to marry him. He knows Maddy wants a real marriage, she wants his heart, but he can’t tell her he loves her when, like all his previous lovers, the emotion might fade. He doesn’t want to hurt her by declaring his love only for it to fade.
  1. Madeline’s brother, Rufus, has an enemy (Invitation to Scandal – May 2012).  Rufus’s enemy is stalking Madeline, unbeknown to either Richard or her brother. Not only is he stalking Madeline, he’s actually befriended her, and like Othello, he’s doing everything he can to undermine her marriage.
  1. The one thing they promised each other when they married was to always tell the truth. The beginning of the black moment starts with Sarah revealing Richard has kept a secret from Madeline—a big secret, he’s actually lied by omission. Her faith and trust in their marriage is shaken to its core. But before she ahs a chance to discuss the reasons why, Rufus’s enemy strikes…

I’m thrilled to welcome the fabulous Delilah Marvelle as my guest on Rakes and Rascals today.  Delilah recently released NIGHT OF PLEASURE, the fourth book in her delightfully wicked School of Gallantry series, and she’s talking about what inspired the series.  It’s over to you, Delilah…

For those of you who don’t know about my School of Gallantry Series, please allow me to give you the quick lowdown of what you can expect. It’s a very quirky, very sexy historical romance series about couples who in one form or another get pulled into a “school” led by a retired French courtesan who educates men in the topic of love and seduction. It’s cheeky and believe it or not “The School of Gallantry” is based on real history.

The inspiration behind Madame de Maitenon, my silver haired retired French courtesan and headmistress of the School of Gallantry comes from a real life figure, Ninon de L’Enclos. I stumbled across her name during some research for another book and the more I unearthed about this woman and her personal history, the more I realized I *had* to create an equally fascinating character and a series around her.

Ninon de L’Enclos was born in Paris in 1620 and came from an interesting family. Her father had been exiled from France for participating in a duel. When her mother died, and having no siblings or family, she decided to enter a convent. Of course, Ninon didn’t last very long and a year later, she left the convent and decided to strike out on her own using her wit and her body to make her fortune. And she was a huge success. How did she decide to go from convent to courtesan? The one thing Ninon wanted was to remain unmarried. That left a woman only one of two choices back in those days to survive. She either went into a convent or turned to the life of a courtesan. She figured out pretty quickly that there wasn’t any fun to be had at that convent…lol.

Once Ninon went out into the world, she actually became well known for her passionate involvement in the literary arts, not just the sexual arts. She interacted and encouraged writers such as Molière to fame and even left money from her estate to her accountant’s son, Francois Arouet, better known to the world as Voltaire. Voltaire has Ninon herself to thank for his education. Without the money she had left him, who knows if we would have ever heard of him. This is why my readers will see references to Voltaire sprinkled throughout my School of Gallantry books. Because it is my ultimate nod to Ninon de L’Enclos.

After reading all about her life, and all of her letters, it was the older Ninon who ultimately fascinated me. She took on many lovers throughout her life, but never more than one at a time and involved herself with powerful, wealthy men, such as the King’s cousin and dukes. Perhaps the most heartbreaking, yet fascinating is the story about her son. Ninon involved herself with a wealthy, powerful man and bore him a son. This man took the son from Ninon and asked that she never disclose herself as being the boy’s mother. She agreed and watched her son grow up from a distance. Imagine her astonishment when her fully grown son appears at her door one day and ardently pleads to her if she’d take him into her bed. Ehm. Talk about awkward. At first, she simply denied him and brushed him off, hoping that his pride would simply squash whatever hopes he had. But her son was so obsessed and so in love with her that he simply wouldn’t give her peace. Ninon knew she had to reveal the truth to him if only to get him to stop. When she revealed the truth, her son committed suicide that same day by impaling himself on his own sword. It was a tragedy that haunted Ninon for the rest of her days. A tragedy I made sure that my own character, Madame de Maitenon lived with.

Because such tragedies often lead to great wisdom. (Don’t we know it…) she thrived on using her experience and applying it to her world. When she wasn’t bedding her current lover, she held literary events and discussions with aristocratic men having to do with philosophy, life, love, and sex. It was a “school” of sorts she had created and she had quite the following of men. In the early stages of creating my books, I decided to take these “discussions” of hers with men and turn it into an actual school. Hence the creation of the School of Gallantry.

Without a doubt, Ninon was known for her quips and wit. She had great sayings like, “Much more genius is needed to make love than to command armies.” And my favorite “The resistance of a woman is not always a proof of her virtue, but more frequently of her experience.” These fabulous quotes of hers gave me ideas upon ideas as to how my imaginary school should be run as well as the sort of quotes I wanted to see at the beginning of each chapter within my books. Hence the lessons. Call it a tribute, if you will, to the fabulous Ninon.

What is perhaps the most fascinating aspect of Ninon and why I created an elderly courtesan for my series as opposed to a young one, is that the older Ninon got, the more sought after she became by men. Unlike most courtesans who were all forced to retire due to age and lack of beauty, Ninon’s circle of admirers grew because they simply could not get enough of her wit and charm. Even women flocked to her for advice. One of my favorite stories about Ninon is when she was approached by a young gentleman who desperately wanted to bed her, but she really didn’t care for him. So she told him, “When I turn 80.” The man was so obsessed with her, that he waited, and when she turned 80, he showed up at her door saying it was time. Ninon was so amused by the man, she bed him for the hell of it. Her approach toward life and the amount of wealth and power she acquired in her lifetime is beyond the comprehension of even a modern woman. I hail her for this alone. Ninon died at 84 and left her vast fortune to friends and admirers.

I would also like to add that Madame de Maitenon also shares a lot of characteristics with own grandmother. My grandmother is a retired opera singer who once had the honor of singing with Pavarotti. Even though she is in her 70’s, she looks like she’s 50. Men of all ages stare at her and drool because she wears things I know I could never pull off. Amusingly enough, she has always oozed of sex but could never say the word sex. She always refers to sex as “Poom-poom.” And this is exactly why my French courtesan says “Poom-poom” because she is a combination between Ninon and my grandmother. And yes, my dearest grandmother knows I ripped off her antics and is rather pleased with it, lol.

About The Dark Affair:

(Mad Passions, #3)

Genre: Historical Romance (Victorian)

The Victorian era was full of majestic beauty and scandalous secrets—a time when corsets were the least of a woman’s restrictions, and men could kill or be killed in the name of honor……

Lady Margaret Cassidy left a life of nobility behind in Ireland, forsaking her grieving homeland to aid war-ravaged men in England. Still, she never expected a cruel turn of fate to lock her into an unwanted betrothal with one of her English patients—much less one as broken and dangerous as Viscount Powers.

Wrecked by his tragic past, Powers’ opiate-addled sanity hangs precariously in the balance, leaving him poised to destroy anyone who dares to utter the names of the wife and child he still so deeply mourns. So when he is forced to marry Margaret in exchange for freedom, he is shocked by the desire to earn her trust, her body, and—most alarming of all—her heart….

“Alright,” Margaret acceded. “You’ve made it to the bath. I’ll give you that.”

The look those piercing eyes gave her sent shivers down her spine. It was a look to say I will never fail, woman.

Margaret folded her arms just under her breasts and felt a grudging respect for the man who was no doubt going to make her life hell for the next months whilst she attempted to save him from himself. That very arrogance was going to be his worst enemy. “I’ll call your man in then.”

Strain tensed his features which on most men would have weakened the beauty of his visage, but not Powers. Instead the furrowed plains of his forehead and jaw line only emphasized the sharp ruggedness of his masculinity. “Not. Necessary.”

She sniffed, eyeing him like a mad goat about to charge. The longer he went without opium the more unreliable he would be. . . at least for a day or two. “You’re not bathin’ on your own. I can tell you that now, me lad.”

She ignored him and planted her hands on her hips. “I’ll not have you drowning.”

“Your early release from marriage,” he offered, though his considerable dead pan was diminished by the fever in his cold stare.

“And certain death by your father.”

He nodded. “Tricky.”

She sighed and headed for the bell pull beside the door. Just as she was about to reach out, his hand darted out with shocking speed and slipped around her wrist, his thumb gently pressing against her throbbing veins. “You bathe me.”

Her entire body froze under that touch. No. Not froze. Enveloped in flame, that’s what her traitorous flesh did. She hadn’t even realized her blood had been pumping ferociously at their interaction. And with this one touch, he was strapped to that bed again. They were kissing, her entire world melting away as he’d shown her that the body was meant for something she never known or given credence to. Pleasure. Unmitigated, soul stealing, pleasure. “‘Tis not my place.”

“You’re my nurse,” he countered softly, his gaze seeking hers with a seductive determination.

“I’m not that kind of nurse. I no longer do chamber pots or bedpans.”

He grimaced. “My wife then. You are my wife.”

She fought the growing heat in her palm, the wish to step closer to him and discover if that one kiss had been an entire aberration. “In name only for the now.”

His thumb stroked the vulnerable flesh over the underside of her wrist. “Are you frightened?”

Ah now. Why did he have to go and ask that? Because she was. She was bleedin’ terrified at this feeling he’d awoken inside her, but there was no way under the stars she’d let him know that. She sniffed. “Course not. I’ve seen my share of men’s bodies. They’re just so hideous I do me best to avoid them.”

He smiled, a lopsided, uneven grin, made even more lopsided by his slightly uneven breathing. He let go her hand and took s slow step toward the bath. “A most educated and jaded woman.”

“Exactly.” She shrugged. “They’re all the same,” she said grandly. Sure, she could pull this off. She could bluster her way through this and he would never be the wiser that she was in wonder at his body, the little she’d seen of it and the way it moved underneath his garments.

That strange smile still remained fixed upon his rugged features as he grabbed hold of his nightshirt and whisked it over his head.

“For if you’ve seen one, you’ve–”

Glory be to God and all the angels. She was going to go to the hell. Her hands clenched into fists lest she reach out to touch him, to discover that he indeed was real and not some over wrought figment of her imagination. His silver blond hair swept over his broad, muscled shoulders, dancing over pectorals she’d only ever seen the like in the British Museum.

She’d been so certain she’d preferred the whip chord strength of a tall, lithe man not the broad Herculean body before her, but she’d been so wrong. His muscles were packed one atop the other, hard, straining against burnished skin, rippling down his abdomen to a waist so defined at his hips she could have cut herself on the bands of flesh which directed the eye down. . .

She couldn’t help it, her mouth opened involuntarily to exude a small sigh of awe.

About Máire:

2011 Golden Heart winner Máire Claremont first fell in love with Mr. Rochester, not Mr. Darcy. Drawn to his dark snark, she longed to find a tortured hero of her own… until she realized the ramifications of Mr. Rochester locking his frst wife up in his attic. Discovering the errors of her ways, Máire now looks for a real-life Darcy and creates deliciously dark heroes on the page. Oh, and she wants everyone to know her name is pronounced Moira. Her parents just had to give her an Irish Gaelic name.
