I have been waiting patiently for the 3rd book in Lauren Smith’s League of Rogues series so I jumped at the chance to review Cedric’s story. This book will be published on 19th January 2016.

(League of Rogues, #3)

Genre: Historical Romance (Regency)

Cover Blurb:

He doesn’t need his eyes to uncover her true beauty.

Cedric, Viscount Sheridan, is cursed. Once the ton’s golden boy, the loss of his sight has left him a reclusive shell of man. His days of womanizing, horse racing and pistol shooting lost forever.

Offered the chance to recapture a small part of his old life, he can’t refuse—even if it means accepting the shocking proposal of the infamous ice maiden, Anne Chessley.

Still reeling from her father’s death, Anne’s deepest wish is to avoid the hordes of fortune hunters who will soon be beating down her door. Proposing marriage to Cedric is an act of desperation, his unexpected acceptance a strange and wonderful dream.

His only stipulation: she must respond passionately and wantonly in his bed. Her agreement barely crosses her lips before he begins a sensual assault on the icy walls bitter secrets have built around her heart.

Yet even as they catch a glimpse of true happiness, betrayal is poised to sweep them away on opposing tides of danger.

Warning: Contains an outwardly aloof heroine with a secretly tender heart, a once-notorious rake who isn’t quite as rusty at seduction as he feared, and a band of rogues who join together to make sure happily-ever-afters do come true.

BUT LOVE CONQUERS ALL

In spite of her lack of theatrical experience—and her fiery clashes with Asa—Eve is determined to turn Harte’s Folly into a smashing success. But the harder she tries to manage the stubborn rake, the harder it is to ignore his seductive charm and raw magnetism. There’s no denying the smoldering fire between them—and trying to put it out would be the greatest folly of all.

(The Dashing Widows, #1)

Genre: Historical Romance (Regency)

Cover Blurb:

For this reckless widow, love is the most dangerous game of all.

Caroline, Lady Beaumont, arrives in London seeking excitement after ten dreary years of marriage and an even drearier year of mourning. That means conquering society, dancing like there’s no tomorrow, and taking a lover to provide passion without promises. Promises, in this dashing widow’s dictionary, equal prison. So what is an adventurous lady to do when she loses her heart to a notorious rake who, for the first time in his life, wants forever?

Devilish Silas Nash, Viscount Stone is in love at last—with a beautiful, headstrong widow bent on playing the field. Worse, she’s enlisted his help to set her up with his disreputable best friend. No red-blooded man takes such a challenge lying down, and Silas schemes to seduce his darling into his arms, warm, willing and besotted. But will his passionate plots come undone against a woman determined to act the mistress, but never the wife?

♥♥♥♥♥♥

“…why don’t we all leave our old, sad days behind? Why don’t we all become dashing widows?”

Anna Campbell’s charming, new The Dashing Widows series features three, young, widowed friends – Caroline, Lady Beaumont, Fenella, Lady Deerham and Helena, Countess of Crewe – who decide they need a little adventure in their lives and this is Caroline’s story.

“I feel like I’ve been locked away in the dark all my life. I’ve spent twenty-eight years waiting. I’ve never had a chance to laugh and dance and carry on romantic intrigues.”

Caroline’s life has always been controlled, first by her bully of a father and then by her dull-as-dishwater husband. I could understand her determination to enjoy life to the full and never surrender her independence again but I did find her single-minded stubbornness a little annoying at times.

Silas won me over from the start with his intelligence and charm, not to mention his sexiness! I like the fact that he fell in love with Caroline the first moment he saw her and totally relinquished his rakish ways. I do so love a hero who doggedly pursues the woman he loves even if, at times, the cause seems hopeless.

Silas needs every ounce of cunning and ingenuity to win Caroline and I love the lengths he goes to thwart her efforts to select a lover, particularly the scene where he uses a bit of creativity to disparage each of her choices of lover.

“What about Harry Hall?” She pointed to the slender man talking to Pascal.
“Doesn’t wash.”
She turned to frown at Silas in puzzlement.
“I’ve danced with him. He smelled perfectly fine.”
“Well, when I say he doesn’t wash, he does have a scrub-down once a month. You must have timed your dance just right.”

Look out for the HOT love scene in Silas’s greenhouse when long suppressed passions bubble over and things get smashed!

I enjoyed watching Caroline coming to terms with her true feelings for Silas and I thought the ending fitted perfectly, with the promise of a Happy Ever After.

MY VERDICT: THE SEDUCTION OF LORD STONE is romantic, emotional, sexy and funny. In fact, everything I have come to expect from Anna Campbell. I’m looking forward to reading the other Dashing Widows’ stories.

Cover Blurb:

WARNING: Book contains a proud Highlander unwilling to surrender his heart a second time, and a half-Scottish heroine who, like most Rockwoods, is up to the challenge of making her man realize she’s The Highlander’s Woman.

Julian MacTavish’s honor made him guard a friend’s secret. But his lies to keep that vow make it difficult to prove his faithfulness as a husband. When a terrible inferno scars Patience’s body and mind, she becomes a recluse, widening the divide between them. But it’s her lack of trust, not her disfigurement, which sends Julian home alone to Scotland convinced he’s lost her forever.

Forgiveness in the face of death comes easily to Patience MacTavish, but the thought of being a burden to her husband does not. When a twist of fate takes Julian’s sight from him, Patience returns home hoping to make amends for not having faith in him. Pity is the last thing Julian wants from anyone, especially his wife, and it’s his turn to question her sincerity. Now, Patience must convince her husband that she’s come home for no other reason than love, even if it means arranging a highlander’s seduction.

(Sons of Sin, #4.5)

Genre: Historical Romance (Regency)

Cover Blurb:

Whose hot kisses will melt the ice princess? All London is agog to know!

As the season reaches its brilliant climax, three very different men pursue beautiful Lady Marianne Seaton. She’s the marriage mart’s greatest prize – even if cruel and unjust gossip paints her as a woman cold and glittering as any diamond.

Lord Desborough is her father’s choice – rich, powerful, safe. Lord Tranter is society’s darling – handsome, dashing, charming.

Then there’s the dangerous, compelling man nobody in their right mind calls eligible. Elias Thorne, son of scandal, reputed deceiver, possessing a rakish fascination no woman can resist. A lady might choose Elias as a lover, but as a husband, he’s too risky a bet. Even if Marianne’s forbidden yearning for him threatens her future and her reputation.

When Marianne’s suitors pursue her to the year’s most glamorous house party, there will be proposals and passion, rivals and revelations, secrets and scandals.

Let the battle commence – but will the best man win?

♥♥♥♥♥♥

Once again, Anna Campbell lives up to all my expectations with this captivating love story. Even though a novella, it still packs plenty of passion, romance and drama.

I really felt sympathetic towards Marianne. She had weathered the storm of being jilted by the Duke of Sedgemoor with dignity, despite the nasty gossip that circulated about her. Now her father has issued an ultimatum that she must marry one of her two suitors.

I disliked her father intensely. He has always demanded unquestionable obedience from his daughter, caring nothing for her own wishes or happiness.

Her martinet of a father had done his best to teach her unquestioning duty, to bring up a compliant doll.

He sees her simply as a means of furthering his own financial and political ambitions through a marriage to the influential Lord Desborough. Marianne hides her insecurities and unhappiness beneath a veneer of impeccable manners and exemplary behaviour.

Elias is such a wonderful hero. When he and Marianne first met, he glimpsed a warm, intelligent woman with a generous heart and not the “cold fish”, society perceives her to be. It’s refreshing to see a hero who is head over heels in love with the heroine and willing to fight for her whatever the obstacles. With a family that’s a byword for scandal and an older brother who was a complete wastrel and died leaving the Thorne estate in dire financial straits, the dice seem firmly stacked against Elias. He has to overcome a belligerent Marianne…

Her lips curled with scorn. “We can all be jolly together, me with my handsome fortune hunter and you with all my lovely golden guineas.”

as well as her angry father and his rival suitors.

I enjoyed watching Marianne discover what she really wants in life and finally acknowledging her feelings for Elias and cheered her determination to defy her father and marry Elias.

Anna Campbell’s love scenes are always steamy but they are far more than just sex. She conveys the deep emotional connection between the characters and I love the tenderness and obvious love that shines through in moments like this.

“Are you all right?” He brushed her tumbled hair back from her face with a tenderness that made her bare toes curl.

She managed a weary, contented smile. “Absolutely wonderful.”

Elias dipped his head and kissed her with a sweetness all the more profound for the passion that preceded it. When he pulled away, she looked into his eyes and wondered how she’d ever questioned that he loved her.

I really like Lord Desborough. He’s a good man and I wholeheartedly agree with Sidonie…

“He needs to find a nice woman past first youth who will appreciate his qualities as a man, rather than his appeal as a marital catch.”

When Lord Tranter finally shows his true colours, what a truly nasty piece of work he is!

Jonas and Sidonie and Richard and Genevieve, characters from the previous books, make a welcome appearance and play an active role in bringing Elias and Marianne together. I also love the banter between Richard and Jonas.

The Epilogue provides a delightful glimpse of Elias and Marianne with their children and ties up some of the story threads most satisfactorily.

My Verdict: Another worthy addition to this excellent series. Definitely recommended!

I’m thrilled to welcome back the fabulous, multi award-winning author ANNA CAMPBELL for an exclusive interview.

Carol, thanks for inviting me to your blog today! Fun questions!

~~~~~
R&R:
Could you tell us where you were born and what it was like growing up there?
Anna:
I was born in Brisbane in Queensland on the east coast of Australia. My father had a midlife crisis when I was five so we all moved to a farm on the bayside which was an absolutely glorious place to grow up. It was a small hamlet in a beautiful corner of the world and everybody knew everybody so it was a very free childhood. We grew all sorts of things like tomatoes and passionfruit and beans and zucchinis, but eventually Mum and Dad settled on establishing an avocado orchard. Good thing I love avocadoes! I was always a really dreamy kid – the family joke was that I’d lose things faster than you could say Jack Robinson just because I was so absent minded. I read a lot and played in my imagination which I think was excellent training for a writer.
Anna Campbell - interview
Me with mum and dad
R&R:
How would you describe yourself – temperamental or easy-going?
Anna:
I’m actually pretty easy-going up to a point, but heaven help you if you go beyond that point! I wouldn’t say I’m a moody person.
R&R:
When it comes to food do you like sweet or savoury or both?
Anna:
I’d say both although my utter food downfall is potato chips which definitely fall into the salty/savoury category.
R&R:
What is your most treasured possession?
Anna:
I’ve got a few but I’ll pick my most regal one. My godfather worked for Royal Doulton in England in the late 50s/early 60s and during that time, RD made a new dinner service for Windsor Castle (under the regal brand name Royal Windsor!). He created his own dinner service from the offcuts and eventually gave the service to me. I’m always very proud to say when I use it (and I do use it) that Queen Elizabeth has this china and so do I and that’s it! In fact, my friends often ask me to use “Lizzie’s china.” Even nicer, it’s a pattern I really like and would have chosen for myself, were I a royal!
Anna Campbell - lizzie's china
“Lizzie’s china”
R&R:
If you were able to afford a second home anywhere in the world where would you choose and why?
Anna:
Carol, it will be no secret to you that, while I’m an Aussie, I’m an Anglophile through and through. One of the lovely things about writing Regency romance is that I get to express this love every day! I’d love a Georgian rectory or small manor house somewhere like Somerset. My characters might live in places like Chatsworth but that would be way too much for me to cope with! Or perhaps I’d take Sir Gideon Trevithick’s manor house on the Cornish cliffs – I definitely used Manderley as the inspiration for that one.
Georgian rectory
Georgian Rectory
R&R:
Finally, what has been your most embarrassing moment?
Anna:
I think there have been too many for me to pick a ‘most’ embarrassing moment. A writerly one was at my first Romance Writers of America conference where I hadn’t yet got used to people addressing me by my pseudonym Anna Campbell (another author has my real name and had used it!). I was mortified when I realised that all those people calling “Anna” were trying to talk to me! To this day, I’m sure some of those people are convinced I’m the snobbiest Australian who ever lived!
~~~~~

Anna, thank you for taking time out to be here today and sharing these fascinating facts about yourself.

Carol, thank you so much for having me as your guest. I love the idea of getting to know some of my favourite writers a little better!
