I’m delighted to welcome USA Today Bestselling Author, JULIE JOHNSTONE to Rakes and Rascals today for an exclusive interview.
Carol, I’m thrilled to be here today! It’s always so much fun to get to interact with readers and get to know them! For those of you who don’t know me, I write Regency, Victorian and Scottish Medieval Romance! I first fell in love with the romance genre after picking up a book in a New Orleans airport gift shop. I was on my way to a family gathering at Lake Conroe, and when I got to the lake all I wanted to do was read the book I had purchased! Years later, after rabidly reading historical romance, I decided to try my hand at writing one, and well…the rest is history! My stories feature broken heroes and heroines who need to find the perfect person to help them heal. I always add a dash of adventure, because well, I frankly think adventure is fun to read! I hope you will enjoy my stories!

R&R:
Could you tell us where you were born and what it was like growing up there?
Julie:
I was born in Ohio, but I did not grow up there. My father was a helicopter pilot in the army when I was born, and he was immediately transferred to the Fort Rucker Army base. I grew up in a sleepy, small town in Ozark, Alabama. Growing up there was not easy for me in some ways. Don’t get me wrong, I have good memories. I had some great friends that I went through school with, but Ozark is not a very progressive or inclusive town and I did not care for that. My parents were divorced when I was very young and my mother raised my brother and me to treat all people equally, so it really bothered me when I encountered attitudes that seemed to dominate the town culture there that certain classes of people were better than others. However, I firmly believe that all the things we experience in life shape us, and I like to think seeing people with a true ‘small town mentality’ helped me to be even more accepting of all people.
R&R:
How would you describe yourself – temperamental or easy-going?
Julie:
I’m usually easy going but I am pretty protective of my kids.
R&R:
When it comes to food do you like sweet or savoury or both?
Julie:
In general, savoury foods are my favourite, but I have a terrible weakness for dark chocolate.
R&R:
What is your most treasured possession?
Julie:
My pictures are my most treasured possession. My kids and I love to pull out albums and look at old pictures together.
R&R:
If you were able to afford a second home anywhere in the world where would you choose and why?
Julie:
OH, this is a hard one!!! I love, love, love to travel, so I have been to so many beautiful places that I would love to live, but if I HAD to pick, I’d have a second home in Florence, Italy. My husband and I almost decided to up and move there before my first child was born.
R&R:
Finally, what has been your most embarrassing moment?
Julie:
I have a thousand embarrassing moments, but I suppose the one that stands out the most for me is when I was called on in a huge lecture class in law school and I stumbled my way through the answer with 600 people looking on. Afterwards, I could not even remember what I had said because I was so nervous. I knew after that, without a doubt, that I did not want to be a lawyer!
